More than 1000 visitors comprising students, teachers and the local community visited the ICT Carnival 2009 which was held at SMK Tanjung Adang and SK Tanjung Adang, Gelang Patah.
Themed “ICT: The Catalyst for Excellent School”, the carnival served as a platform to expose the surrounding communities of Nusajaya to the current trends in ICT. It is hoped that, in the long run, it will help to bridge the digital divide between the urban and rural population.
The exhibitors were from schools in Gelang Patah, Nusajaya and Johor Bahru District. The carnival showcased numerous ICT related products, programs and activities including an F1 demo, which drew the crowd, by SMK Sultan Ismail & Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar. Spontaneous quizzes offering attractive prizes were also one of the attractions to the visitors.
A collaborative effort between UEM Land, PPDJB and UEM Land’s 16 PINTAR Schools in Gelang Patah, the carnival was officially launched by En Rusli Zainal Abidin, GM of Township Planning and Infrastructure of Nusajaya Development Sdn Bhd on behalf of En Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, MD/CEO UEM Land Berhad Holdings Berhad. The event was also graced by Nusajaya State Assemblyman, YB Datuk Hj Aziz Sapian and En Aminudin Adam, Johor Bahru District Education Officer.
En Rusli Zainal Abidin, in his speech says, “ICT plays a vital role in the modern era. Currently, our daily routine is very much related to ICT, therefore everyone in Nusajaya especially the school community should take the opportunity to embrace ICT in order to be more competitive.”
The 2-day carnival was officially closed on Sunday by Pn Bahariah Temu, Head of ICT Sector, Johor Education Department on behalf of Tn Hj Sufa’at Tumin, Johor State Education Director. |
