Global average temperatures are increasing, sea levels are rising, weather patterns are changing and deforestation is occurring at an alarming rate which has impacted both the environment and the society.

With this is mind, UEM Land Holdings Berhad and GE International Inc recently organized “Colour Your Environment Green” at SK Tanjung Kupang which saw the participation of some 150 people, comprising students, teachers, parents, Johor Bahru District Education Office representative, UEM Land and GE staff.

The initiative aimed to promote awareness on the importance of appreciating, conserving and preserving mother nature to the school communities especially the students, teachers, parents and the surrounding Gelang Patah neighborhood. A series of activities to green and beautify the school included green activities such as tree planting, gotong-royong to clean the school compound and mural painting to create a more conducive learning environment.

The event was officiated by Pn Karimah Tan Abdullah, Advisor of UEM Land Volunteer Brigade cum General Manager, Corporate Communication, UEM Land Holdings Bhd, on behalf of UEM Land’s Managing Director.

Pn Karimah Tan Abdullah in her speech said, “Today we are glad to join forces with GE, to green the environment. This is one of our initiatives to adopt the concept of ‘Green Living’ philosophy by creating activities that result in a positive impact to the environment and the community in order to provide a better living place for the future generations.”

Also present were Mr Allan Jones, Managing Director, GE Engine Services Malaysia, En Megat Sharul Azmir Nordin, Marketing Development Director, GE International Inc, En Saliman Selamat, Deputy Officer, Johor Bahru District Education of Technology and Vocational Unit, Tn Hj Hassim Sohimy, Headmaster SK Tanjung Kupang, teachers, parents, GE and UEM Land volunteer team.
