UEM Land’s commitment to the environment is manifested through the strategic management of Nusajaya’s water, energy, waste management and environment conservation. Conscious of its responsibility to ensure co-existence between development and the environment, UEM Land, in November 2008, committed to a research grant amounting to RM230,000 to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to draw up an Environment Masterplan for Nusajaya. The Masterplan is to be completed by 2009.
The research grant is part of UEM Land’s strategic efforts to ensure sustainable development.
Apart from the grant, UEM Land is also the sponsor of a coffee table book entitled, Bio-Diversity of Sg Pulai Ramsar Site Johor, published by UKM.
The book is a valuable guide to the rich flora and fauna biodiversity of the Sg Pulai mangrove forest in the Ramsar site of South Johor. It is aimed at promoting public awareness and appreciation of the intrinsic value and functional significance of the mangrove forest; its importance in the ecosystem and the importance of environmental conservation for the benefit of the future.
UEM Land’s commitment to the environment is also evident in the network of green open spaces that has been planned in Nusajaya with the 650-acre Regional Park, located on the hilliest terrain of Nusajaya, being the largest. Together with the Ramsar site at Sg Pulai, which is adjoining Nusajaya and equal in size to it, they form the “green lung” of South-west Johor. |
