Nusajaya, Wednesday, 7 April 2008 – UEM Land Berhad (UEM Land), the master developer of Nusajaya and key driver of Iskandar Malaysia, today handed over a surau to the villagers of Kampung Tebing Runtuh, Gelang Patah. The newly built facility, named Surau Permata Hikmah, was officiated by Tuan Haji A. Rahman Jaffar, Director of Religious Department of Johor (JAJ).

The building was constructed in July 2008 at a cost of RM600, 000 and was completed in December 2008. With a built-up area of 195m2, the facility can accommodate about 150 jemaah inside and 240 jemaah at the open courtyard. It comprises common facilities such as the main prayer hall, ablution areas, restrooms and parking facility.

According to Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, Managing Director of UEM Land Holdings Berhad, “As a caring developer, UEM Land continually looks for opportunities in which we can play a meaningful role in strengthening community development, in line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy which is founded on education and community development.

The facility is also a one-stop Islamic resource centre for the villagers to strengthen their Islamic education as well as enhancing their spiritual values and practice. Equally, it offers a place for fellowship amongst the Muslims in the village and for cementing the brotherhood among villagers.

Surau Permata Hikmah is our contribution to the villagers of Kampung Tebing Runtuh to symbolise our commitment to the welfare and needs of the residents in the community within which we operate. In realizing our objective of building a regional city, UEM Land has taken a responsible approach to the community development of existing communities in Nusajaya to ensure that a better living environment is created so as to allow them to pursue a quality lifestyle,” Wan Abdullah added.

Some 150 people, comprising Kampung Tebing Runtuh villagers, Johor Religious Department representatives and UEM Land’s personnel attended the event.
