Nusajaya, Thursday, 14 May 2009 – UEM Land Holdings Berhad, the master developer of Nusajaya and key driver of Iskandar Malaysia, today hosted “SAIL MALAYSIA PASSAGE TO THE EAST 2009 (JOHOR) RALLY DINNER” at Puteri Harbourfor some 300 guests including 90 international yachtsmen from around the world. Puteri Harbour is the curtain raiser and the official starting point for Sail Malaysia’s leg of events.

SAIL MALAYSIA PASSAGE TO THE EAST 2009 (JOHOR) RALLY is a recreational marine excursion program organised by PassionAsia Sdn Bhd and supported by Tourism Malaysia, aimed to promote Malaysian hot spots and tourist’s destination by sea. Through organised rally stops from East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia to the West Cost of Sabah and Sarawak, these yacht owners from around the globe are showcased with Malaysia’s finest locations for sailing yachts, motorized yachts and mega yachts.

As a prestigious international event, this was an ideal platform to promote Puteri Harbour as one of the Marina destinations in South East Asia as Puteri Harbour has the full potential to become Asia’s foremost Marina Destination with its luxury living concept, full and comprehensive Marina Facilities and the Gold Anchor Scheme high standard of services in the Hospitality Industries.

This year, UEM Land is privileged to become one of the co-sponsors along with Danga Bay Sdn Bhd and the Terengganu State Government. As its contribution, UEM Land had waived the berthing fees from 13 to 19 May 2009 for all rally participants docking at Puteri Harbour marina. This effort is fully supported by Ministry of Tourism and the Malaysia Yachting Association whose endeavor is to promote Malaysia as Asia’s Yacht Destination and Sail Malaysia Passage to the East, which is one of the largest sailing events in Asia.

The initial registration for yacht cruisers started at Danga Bay and they later sailed their way to Puteri Harbour. The Puteri Harbour stopover from 13 – 18 May 2009 had delighted the guests and public with fun filled activities like Malaysian traditional showcases and performances, water games and exhibition.

According to Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim, Managing Director of UEM Land Holdings Berhad, ”Puteri Harbour’s public marina received its first boat last January, marking a historic milestone in the development roadmap of this iconic development. Since then, we have hosted 140 boats and yachts. We are proud to say that the Puteri Harbour marina has the facilities and hardware that match the standards of any international marina in the world.”

“We trust that by supporting this Rally the boaters and yachters would clearly see our intent and commitment to playing a lead role in Marina events. We are working towards making Puteri Harbour a hub for marina events and are rapidly filling our Marina calendar with other key marina events; I am pleased to announce that the World Maritime Day which is slated to take place in September is already in the plan. “

There are about 12 rally stops along the 2009 Sail Malaysia route and the yacht cruisers are expected to conclude their three- month journey at Kota Kinabalu in August.
