Nusajaya A Safe City
  21 JULY 2009

Nusajaya, 21 July 2009:- UEM Land Berhad, the master developer of Nusajaya, today hosted the launch of Nusajaya Bandar Selamat, a program by the Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM), in collaboration with Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB). The event took place at Puteri Harbour, Nusajaya’s integrated waterfront and marina development.

Nusajaya Bandar Selamat program models Nusajaya as a Safe City, at the same time promoting awareness on the importance of safety and security to the public. Through the comprehensive practice of safety & security operations based on world’s best practice and standards, it will create a conducive environment that will enhance the quality of life, and the development of economic, social and cultural activities within the Nusajaya community.

The program is in line with the Nusajaya Safety & Security Master Plan which was unveiled by UEM Land on 10 April 2008 and the launch of Iskandar Safety and Security Blueprint by IRDA on 20 March 2009.

UEM Land collaborated with General Electric International Inc. (GE) – one of the world’s most admired companies, to develop the Nusajaya Security Master Plan with Sinclair Knight Merz, Australia’s leading security consultancy group. The philosophy behind the master plan is on the understanding that security is generated by three controls; planning & design, technology and management and is adopted at four levels - city-wide, township-wide, precinct-wide and individual developments.

The Nusajaya Security Master Plan is being implemented in stages, the first of which is the Precinct Security Command Centre (PSCC) at the Puteri Harbour Clubhouse. PSCC facilitates security management at Puteri Harbour and is designed to provide smooth and efficient operations and minimises reporting and response time. PSCC also serves as the interim Local Security Command Centre (LSCC) for the entire Puteri Harbour development.

Another safety and security program which is being implemented is the East Ledang Security Intelligence System (ELSIS). ELSIS employs sophisticated detection analysis and alarm technology with plate recognition system for vehicular entry/exit, vehicle tracking/movement facility at each Phase access, and resident-security force alert system, which will all be unified and integrated with the Nusajaya Central Security Command Centre. ELSIS also has the capabilities to speedily handle fire, medical and other emergencies.

UEM Land Holdings Berhad Project Director, Nusajaya, Zulkifli Tahmali said that as a responsible developer, UEM Land has built-in safety & security in all its projects, starting from the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED.) principles into the design, to optimal deployment of technology and management.

“The successful execution of Nusajaya’s Safety & Security Master Plan is vital as it will translate into an enhancement as well as enrichment in the quality of life for residents and visitors, who choose to live, work and play in Nusajaya. The three Cs; co-ordination, co-operation and collaboration have to co-exist between all responsible parties including the Royal Malaysian Police, emergency services agencies, developers and owners. It is only through this approach that the most effective risk mitigation and comfort from safety and security can be achieved. The Nusajaya Bandar Selamat Program initiative by PDRM is a fine example of the three Cs in execution,” he added.

PDRM had carried out specific initiatives that complement Nusajaya’s efforts to build a safe city which incorporates comprehensive, modern age technology and the latest safety elements.

Various activities and crime prevention measures have been initiated, such as police patrol unit, mobile beat base, monthly Crime Talk to the local community and school community within Nusajaya, Community Policing activities including neighbourhood watch and Exhibition and educational crime prevention measures such as the Crime Prevention Club in schools.

Some immediate future plans include the establishment of a Police Station in Anjung Neighbourhood Centre in East Ledang to enhance police service deliverance and deployment and ”Watch Constables” to assist in patrolling the Nusajaya neighbourhood.
