Nusajaya sponsors Iskandar Johor Open 2009

Nusajaya, 15 October 2009:- Nusajaya, the key driver of Iskandar Malaysia, is this year’s Iskandar Johor Open’s platinum sponsor.

“We are very happy to be associated with the IJO, a world class golf tournament, for the second consecutive year,” said UEM Land Holdings Berhad Managing Director/Chief Executive Office Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim.

“It will be a good opportunity and platform for brand building Nusajaya, as the tournament is highly promoted through print and electronic media, both local and international. It is also part of our role in supporting the Government’s aim to propel Malaysia to become a major sports tourism destination in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Nusajaya, a 24,000-acre integrated urban expansion in South-west Johor, is the largest, premier, fully-integrated urban development in South East Asia. The championship, which is into its 3rd year, will be played at the Royal Johor Country Club (RJCC) in Johor Bahru from from 22 to 25 October 2009. This year’s tournament will see the return of defending champion and two-time major winner, South African Retief Goosen and last year's runner up Thaworn Wiratchant from Thailand, while Korean K.J. Choi, the first Korean to win the PGA Tour before becoming one of the first Asians to break into the World Top 10 ranking, will be seen playing in Malaysia for the first time

Some 150 players from various countries are expected to partake in the tournament. The IJO is sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the Malaysian Golf Association, and supported by the Johor Government, Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) as a main sponsor.
