NUSAJAYA, Tuesday, 15 November - UEM Land Berhad (UEM Land) and profressional golfers Thongchai Jaidee and Henrik Stenson participated in the ”Tree for Tee” programme in conjunction with the Iskandar Johor Open 2011. The initiative saw Pulai trees planted in Taman Wilayah Nusajaya in an effort to inculcate environmental awareness amongst the Nusajaya community.
“I personally feel that planting trees is like planting hope for the future generation. It is similar to providing our children with a chance to enjoy what we have with the intention that our children in turn preserve it and carry on the cycle,” said UEM Land’s Township, Infrastructure and Planning Bandar Nusajaya Development General Manager, Rusli Zainal Abidin.
Taman Wilayah Nusajaya, which spans 650 acres – almost the size of New York’s Central Park, has been identified as a green lung in the regional city of Nusajaya. The area is planned as a multi-faceted nature reserve with areas being assigned for specific focuses such as botanical gardens, reforested rainforest, herbarium and arboretum while also serving as a centre for research and development.
Dato’ Wan said UEM Land believes in giving back to the community and it will continue to organise similar activities in the future to inspire stakeholders and the public to adopt green habits and minimise negative impact on Mother Nature.

Earlier this year, UEM Land successfully hosted the 40th World Forestry Day 2011 here at Taman Wilayah Nusajaya which saw some 1,000 forest trees planted to signify the nation’s contribution in protecting and preserving the environment.
UEM Land is the platinum sponsor of the Iskandar Johor Open 2011, one of the fastest growing golf tournaments jointly sanctioned by the Asian Tour and European Tour. It has attracted some of the best golfers in the world. The prestigious event which offers a total of USD2million in prize money, will take place at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club, Nusajaya beginning 17 November 2011.
